A Significant Week
The New Testament writers devote a large majority of their writing to the final week and even the final hours of Jesus’s life. And so for us as Christians, we see the centerpiece of our faith, of course, as Good Friday, where Jesus laid down his life in our place, and then Easter, where Jesus is gloriously raised in our place to newness of life so that we might experience newness of life. We see those two days.
Written by hymn writer and pastor Matthew Boswell, this illustrated children’s book features short, memorable rhymes about each day of Holy Week, from Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday.
But I was curious in thinking how many of our church members know the vital news of each one of those days and would a be able to articulate what’s happening in the life of Jesus through this week that we often set aside between Palm Sunday and Resurrection Sunday?
I also wanted to make sure that my children knew each of the significant events in Jesus’s life during Holy Week. And so during one Holy Week, I just sat down every day with a discipline of studying and researching what happens on that day, and I wrote a poem that a young child could hear and know what happens on each of these days of Holy Week.
Matthew Boswell is the author of That Holy Week So Long Ago: The Seven Days That Led to Easter.
