The Craftsmanship and Care Behind ESV Heirloom Bibles
Every detail of Crossway’s ESV Heirloom Bibles has been thoughtfully considered to ensure the best possible reading experience. From premium-grade leathers to carefully refined typography, each Bible is meticulously crafted to be a lasting treasure, enduring through a lifetime of use.
Leather
Heirloom Bibles use only full-grain leather, which is the only grade of leather that retains the surface of the hide, showing its natural texture and imperfections.
Tanning
All cowhide Heirloom Bibles are vegetable tanned using plant-derived ingredients, and all goatskin and calfskin Heirloom Bibles are mineral tanned to produce a soft, refined texture.
Dyeing
All Heirloom Bibles use only aniline dyes which soak an entire piece of leather in order to retain a natural appearance and texture.
Paper
Paper for Bibles is carefully selected for opacity, color, durability, and surface texture. Heirloom Bibles use Indopaque paper, which offers a significant reduction in show through between pages, allowing the text on each page to stand out clearly.
Printing and Binding
Heirloom Bibles are printed and bound at Royal Jongbloed in the Netherlands where they are fashioned by hand and bound together with durable smyth-sewn stitching.
